Scenic Cancels of Manchukuo
|
The Scenic Cancellations of Manchukuo Scenic cancellations were first used on 25th June 1934 at a post office in Harbin, this was followed on 1st September 1936 when a further 36 designs were put into use. Scenic cancels could be requested from certain Post Offices and Postal Agencies as a souvenir. They were valid for postal use. Most were 35mm in diameter and appeared in either brownish red, red, or deep violet ink. They fell out of use during 1938, although in Japan the tradition is continued to this day. If anyone wishes to send me further scans I will be pleased to include them here. Please note that I list these cancels in alphabetical order by Chinese place name, the numbering used on the website is for reference purposes only, it has no other significance.

Maybe it simply outgrew its village status and became a town?
