Issued 21st March 1946 by when the town was under the control of the Chinese Nationalist Army (Chiu). A very clear, four character 中華民國 Chinese Republic overprint with a surcharge value underneath. This is a complete set of three values, Chan does not mention that the 1.2y on 1y has a red overprint, although this is shown in Kerr. These stamps are known to exist with many variations, inverted, characters missing, sideways, etc., |

This is an interesting and unrecorded variety. A mirror offset on the back of the 1Y stamp.
15th. May 1947 Cover sent from Shenyang (Mukden) to Harbin.
18th. May 1947 - Dealer cover, there are multiple copies like this, all with the same typed address.
These stamps have been identified by using Volume II of the Stamp Catalogue of China by Shui-Hon Chan and the four booklet guide The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7 by Allen D Kerr (published 1978 and now out of print). Both works are essential for anyone delving seriously into this subject. |
