Purple surcharge hand-stamp. This is a set of three stamps as pictured above and is the only set known for this village. Beware - Poor quality fakes have been seen on online auction sites. The top left character looks very different from the genuine overprint and is clearly based on Kerr's reproduction which was slightly inaccurate. Needless to say, no inverted stamps have ever been reported for Hu Tou. My thanks to Steve Jenson for supplying the "fake" image |

These stamps have been identified by using Volume II of the Stamp Catalogue of China by Shui-Hon Chan and the four booklet guide The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7 by Allen D Kerr (published 1978 and now out of print). Both works are essential for anyone delving seriously into this subject. | ||||||||
