Plate Varieties and Errors

Zirkle lists a total of 5 consistent plate varieties for this issue, so to start off with these are listed in the order that they appear in her book "a." to "e.". This is followed by some additional varieties which must be considered speculative - if you have sheets of this issue please see if you can confirm them (or not), email your results and maybe some more varieties can be recorded. a. Spots on Apron Variety - Mentioned by Zirkle, two spots appear on the apron of the nurse (many other stamps have at least one spot). This variety appears on stamp 21 of each sheet.

 

b. Spot on above Waist Variety - Mentioned by Zirkle, in most stamps the dark fold in the uniform varies, in this instance it is a circular spot. This variety appears on stamp 33 of each sheet.

c. Spots under Wrist Variety - Mentioned by Zirkle, Two very small spots appear under the left hand and a spot is shown on the apron above the third character. This variety appears on stamp 34 of each sheet.

 

d. White Spot above Shoulder Variety - Mentioned by Zirkle, Self explanatory. This variety appears on stamp 62 of each sheet.

e. Line from Hat Variety - Mentioned by Zirkle, Self explanatory and easy to see. This variety appears on stamp 64 of each sheet.   f. Broken Character (Unconfirmed) Variety - Break in the left arm of the 10 character. This variety appears on stamp 1 of the sheet. Probable Plate Wear

g. Spot by 6 Character (Unconfirmed) Variety - A spot appears to the right of the 6 character, just inside the frame. This variety appears on stamp 17 of the sheet. Probable Plate Wear   h. i. Thin Line (Unconfirmed) Variety - A thin green line runs from arm to arm across the uniform (ignore the orange spot - toning). This variety appears on stamp 30 of the sheet. Confirmed as a new variety   j. Spot next to left sleeve 2 (Unconfirmed) Variety - A white spot appears next to the left sleeve in line with the belt (similar to "h" but higher).
